Randy Laquay hits a perfect line at Knife's Edge.
|
| Pictures just don't do rapids justice.
This is an 8 foot drop, with a technical Z turn. The other line that
can be run is to keep on the ledge at the bottom of the picture and
boof of the end of it. One boater I saw do this came close to
falling sideways and hitting his head on the rock you see in the
midst of the foaming water. He did come out clean but it is not
pretty to thing of the consequences had he missed. On my first trip
down the Bottom Moose, one of our group, a NYS trooper said to me
while scouting the rapid, "See the hole over there that leads
to the cheat route?" Of course I did, it is slightly up
stream from where the drop starts, on river left. He continued by
telling me that is where they blasted through the rock to divert the
water to retrieve the body of the man who died in this rapid more
than a decade ago. I think at that point in time, I convinced
my self it would be a long long time, if ever before I ran this drop
and by passed the "cheat route".. |

Looking up river at Knife's Edge. The
falls from the right are where the sneak route joins the main
Channel of the river again. |
